Good little Lebanese place, and pretty cheap. Lots of veg options. I got the mujaddara and it was really yummy!

Just had my first experience at Zamaan and was was underwhelmed. I thought the food was OK but I thought it was very overpriced! There was only one waitperson. They were out of all soup except lentil. They said they were out of all dessert except rice pudding but they were selling containers of bakalava at the counter (what the heck?) We were told that they used to include hummus with the entrees but no longer do that. There are plenty of good Middle Eastern places in Ann Arbor, I definitely don't need Zamaan!

What a surprising gem this is. Tucked into a strip mall, decor that is middle eastern meets cracker barrel. But the food...oh the food! Started with the fattoush salad which had possibly the best dressing evar!. The karnabeet salad was great, lots of flavors and textures. Their hummus is smooth and silky and nice and thick. The pita, while not homemade is still quite fresh and supple. The kafta hana was delicious. The small had two kafta and a generous side of rice. But be warned it is hot. That was surprising. It had great flavor but the heat was quite unexpected. This place will definitely be a regular stop. So long Palm Palace...you are good, but Zamaan is better...and closer.

My mom and I meet for lunch once a week, and we often go to Zamaan. The food is amazing. The falafel has the perfect amount of crunch and is seasoned perfectly. The grilled chicken kebabs are cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of blackness from the grill. Portions sizes are generous, enough to share or take home for later that evening. My favorite dish is the red lentil soup - amazingly spicy and thick, it's the perfect light lunch, especially when you dip a pita in it. Service is a little slow, but never exceedingly so. The wait staff and owner/cook are really nice, too. A great Mediterranean option for the North side of Ann Arbor.

My favorite in. Ann Arbor. Attentive staff, the owner is friendly, great prices, huge portions, everything is fantastic... We always get a combo plate because we want it all :) try the carnabeet! Yummy. Try everything. Also, I love their cinnamon tea :)

Awful, downright terrible.....don't bother going there...... Disappointed customers

This place is a little gem! Hidden in a run of the mill strip mall next to a Quiznos, Zamaan is a Lebanese restaurant with an excellent menu that has items you probably won't see at any other Arab restaurant in the Ann Arbor area. With a surprisingly beautiful interior decor and ample seating, it's great for dining in. Added bonus: the meat is halal!

We have been there three times ever since we discovered it a few months ago? The staff is very friendly and the foods are delicious and substantial. The hummus is creamy and tasty and the combo with caufliflower is amazing...

Huh. I picked this place because of the glowing yelp reviews. I must say I was a little disappointed. Perhaps most of the people who reviewed it work nearby and were comparing this to the dismal options in the area. Yes, this place is outstanding compared to big boy and coney island. Otherwise, head over to the corridor on washtenaw and try the delicious vegetarian sandwiches at pita pita, the mouthwatering fattoush at haifa, or the hot, fresh from the oven bread at palm palace. Kthx.

They completely forgot to bring my meal and my dad's salad. Messed up a few other things, then knocked an ice-filled glass on my fiance. The food was ok, but mine went home in a doggie bag cuz everyone finished by the time they were coerced into bringing my wrap. The music CD was constantly skipping. Can't recall a less enjoyable restaurant meal. Smoothies were tasty.

  • Micah T.

This place is fantastic -- I constantly crave their shish kabob. Texture and flavor are spot on. My partner likes to order the chicken rice wrap, and she's a big fan (and a smokin' deal at 6.99 for the sizable wrap and a side). If I lived in Ann Arbor I'd be eat there weekly (we've been twice on this trip, alone). Great, great find.

I go there regularly. The quality varies, but it's close middle eastern food. Sometimes the humus and spinach pies are too salty.

Let's face it - we're spoiled with amazing Middle Eastern food in Metro Detroit. So much so that everyone seems to have their own favorite style - the humongo falafel at Jerusalem Garden with that fab red sauce, the buttery hummus at the now defunct La Shish. But the style of Middle Eastern at Zamaan, a new restaurant in a strip mall on Plymouth Road is what I l.o.v.e. Forget the hummous and hand me a plate of fattoush with a dressing that is complex, refreshing and if it's possible to say this about a salad - invigorating. I highly recommend the Makale Fattoush, which is fattoush salad with sauteed vegetables (including rich eggplant) - add oil and garlic and potatoes and wow. I went there with a friend from work and we almost buried our faces in the food it was so good. She was almost late for a meeting (and she's not the type) it was so good. Thank you Zamaan, for saving me from another soggy sandwich at a chain restaurant. Thank you.

I could eat here everyday. Like other reviewers say, the karnabeet is amazing. Just thinking about it makes me which I could have it right now. All the other food I've tried is good. Other things that are memorable: fatoosh, the kebab plates, and birds nest baklava. Mmm.

Ordered from here twice the week I discovered it because it was so good. The varied hummus platters are excellent. The eggplant dish is awesome. Kebabs are great. They don't have their menu online, but they will do takeout and delivery. If you don't have their menu, they will recommend items over the phone. Price was very reasonable!

Great hummus, wraps, and salads for a reasonable price. All the meat well-spiced. Wraps are a particularly good value and it has become a staple lunch spot, but call ahead. I've noticed the garlic sauce can have funky aftertaste as if the garlic used might have a bit too much green sprout on it. It's not enough to negatively affect a wrap that contains the sauce, but I've stopped getting sides of garlic sauce as a result. Very occasionally, I've gotten a soggy tabouli that tastes like it was sitting in the fridge too long. It definitely satisfies the craving for Bucharest Grill until my next Tiger's game.

Love hummus? Then you must come here. Yes, you must When this place first opened a few years back I brought home home a veggie sampler platter, started with a bite of hummus from it, and immediately knew I was into something good. There's plenty of places around where you can get good hummus, and some where it may be equal to Zamaan's (or even better on the right day), but theirs is consistently outstanding, full of, but not overwhelmed by, garlic and lemon flavor, creamy but not sloppy. The baba ganouche is stellar too. It's smooth and mild rather than chunky and smoky. I like both styles, but Zamaan's pairs better with other food. When it comes to Mediterranean dips, Zamaan has you covered. Plenty of other good things here too. The chicken shawarma is great, as are the falafels (and at $5, the falafel appetizer plate is a steal). Grape leaves, shish tawook, and maghmoor are also on our faves list. We were less impressed with the kefta--bland--and with the tabouli, which was so salty and saturated with dressing it was almost inedible. Karnabeet is a favorite dish of ours to make at home, but Zamaan's is greasy and overcooked. I had a couple of good fatoush salads from them, but in the last two the lettuce was limp and the dressing too oily. Still, there is that wonderful hummus, which along with a slew of other fine offerings, makes this one of Ann Arbor's best middle eastern eateries.

There are not many Mediterranean restaurants around Ann Arbor - especially North Campus. Zamaan Cafe offers reasonably priced food that is delicious and quick. Their French fries are delicious and their Schwarma sandwiches have all the expected ingredients. If I could, I would give this place 3.5 stars as I have had better Schwarmas - however, the staff and food is definitely worth what you are paying for. Come by if you are craving a chicken Schwarma and fries for under $8. Otherwise, check out Pita Kebob or Jerusalem Garden on central campus.

I came across Zamaan while staying at a hotel close by. The convenience factor coupled with vegetarian options made this cafe the most suitable option for me. I ordered the lentil soup, BBB, and pistachio baklava. The lentil soup was the best part of my meal. It had a nice mild flavor that was comforting on a cold December day. The BBB was much less impressive. Unfortunately, the texture of the eggplant was less than desirable (surprising since I ordered the dish based on a previous Yelp review). You know something is wrong when you are starving, a full plate of food in front of you, and lose your appetite within 3 bites. I would not recommend the BBB dish to anyone...under any circumstances...and I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul ("a simple wrong would have done just fine" credit: Adam Sandler by way of "Billy Madison") The owner of Zamaan is a nice man who I am sure puts out delicious food, but I did not have that experience. I went in with hopes of having leftovers for tomorrow. Instead, I sit here with 3 bites of an entree gone and food for the birds. Sorry Zamaan...I won't be back on this trip to Ann Arbor.

I love this spot! I may even like the food a little bit more than the typical Ann Arbor Mediterranean staple, Jerusalem Garden. Their Chicken Fattoush salad is incredible and must be paired with their garlic sauce (which is like crack for any garlic lover). The Chicken Sharma and Kufta wraps are just as delicious. Super friendly staff and food comes out almost instantly. So if you ever find yourself in the North side or just curious--do yourself a favor and indulge in some outstanding flavor.

Zamaan Cafe is a delicious and reasonable treat in Ann Arbor. I've been there a few times - for take out and dining in with friends. Everything is extremely flavorful -- highly recommended! The batinjan bi banadura (an eggplant dish with rice) was incredible - the eggplant and cauliflower were perfect and I loved the added crunch of almonds. The chicken shawarma was really flavorful--the garlic sauce was amazing! The lentil soup is also wonderful - perfect for a cold day. Everything I've had there has been so, so delicious. In our experience, the service was great -- so I'll have to wholeheartedly disagree with the negative comments about service. The staff were very friendly, pleasant and attentive and our food came out quickly.

I just had one of the best meals EVER! Working in the Ann Arbor area can make it tricky to get something delicious on the go--and the Zamaan Cafe proved me wrong. I ordered ahead of time, and picked up the eats within 15 minutes. The service was fantastic, the food was fresh and flavorful, and everything was packed up perfectly for lunch at the office. I'd highly recommend the Hummus Bi Shawarma with chick and pine nuts.

I came here for lunch. I was in the mood for a really delicious chicken Schwarma like I can get at Farm Grill in Novi. Since I work in Ann Arbor, driving to Novi for lunch wasn't practical. So I stopped by here to grab lunch. First off, yes, the service is atrocious. Whoever the guy is as owner, manager, whatever, his attitude is bad. I placed my order to go for a chicken Schwarma wrap and lentil soup. Every middle eastern place is judged by their lentil soup. The Schwarma? Decent. Not Farm Grill delicious, but pretty good. I would order again if I needed my fix. Lentil soup? Meh. There was no delicious under current of spices. The lemon I added to perk it up, just ended up getting lost. I was kinda disappointed with this. Overall, it was okay. Ive been pampered by other middle eastern cuisine. It's a shame that in Ann Arbor I found the mediocre place.

My reviews on this are really mixed. Here's why: I will admit. I'm not an expert when it comes to Meditterian food. My co-workers all raved about it and it was on my way home, so I wanted to check it out. I will agree with others.. the service is horrible! I walked in, looked at the menu and had a "gentleman" say to me "yeah?" I would say that "what would you like" or "how may I help you" would be a more appropriate response, but I took that as my cue to order. I ordered chicken with garlic yogurt over rice. I will say, the amount of food was adequate. There would be more than enough for me for a dinner and lunch the next day.. The garlic sauce was great! The chicken was over grilled. No, I wouldn't want it under grilled, but the charred parts kind of left a bitter taste on the chicken. The meal included a ziplock baggie of pita bread. I didn't really try it as I left the sauce for the chicken and rice. The food was ok. I would be willing to give it another shot if the service was good, but it is not. It will be quite awhile before I consider being back.

Walked in and was confused as to whether it was open or not. Had to ask. It was dead quiet during 'after-lunch' time and the person was cleaning. Ordered my food. Food was great. Did not get a refill on my drink. Was not asked if food was ok. Was passed by. Went to ask for a refill and nobody was up front for a while. Left. Good food, service not so great.

  • Patrick T.

The karnabeet is delicious. It's this fried cauliflower with tahini sauce. Amazeballs. The kufta wrap is great. I also had the eggplant and rice wrap which was pretty tasty for not having any meat in it.

As much as I love the food the service here on each of my several visits is painfully slow and unprofessional. Each of the items ordered is FINALLY brought out in the end but not intuitively or when it is ready (ie the salad or soup would normally come first) and beverages are slow in coming or being refilled. Staff forgets to bring straws or containers even when asked. Repeated requests for check unheeded and there were only a few customers. This place has tons of potential BUT PLEASE HIRE COMPETENT WAITSTAFF.

  • Ryan O.

Zamaan might be the best Middle Eastern food in Ann Arbor. Palm Palace is tasty (and their bread is definitely better), but the hummus at Zamaan is to die for. I usually order the Hummus bi Shawarma. Get it with roasted almonds. It is fantastic. The owner and cook is very nice and always greets me when I come in. My main criticism is that the service is consistently bad. But the food is good and the price is right.

I have been to Zamaan several times by now, and the restaurant hasn't disappointed me. I have tried Falafal Zamaan (falafal with sauteed eggplant; delicious!), kafta wrap and wonderful lamb chops. They were all excellent!! I picked up their baklava and they were arguably the best I have ever had. Zamaan, I am impressed! Keep up the good work. You've got a very tough customer, and I am very pleased thus far.

Terrible, terrible service. For example, I was still eating, with food in my hand, and the server came by and tried to take my plate. He never refilled my drink. The pita bread was very stale stale (think cardboard) and when i said something, the guy just walked away. He and his brother just played on their phones in the corner the whole time. I am amazed that the owner keeps them employed. They must treat their employees poorly if the only people they can get to work there are as stupid as this kid was. The food is standard (when the pita bread isnt stale) but I will not return because of how poor the service is, and usually I dont even care about the service as long as the food makes up for it. Thats how bad it was. I cant believe the guy who owns the Zamaan Cafe on Eisenhower also owns this one. The one on Eisenhower is very good. This one...not so much.

If you like Mediterranean food, Zamaan is a must try. There are so many tasty choices - at my first visit I went with one of the dishes another Yelper raved about - Batinjan Bi Banadura. It's a vegetarian dish with eggplant, cauliflower, peppers, onions, tomatoes, garlic, and I think mushrooms served with basmati rice. You can add a protein to it for a few extra dollars. The flavors are out of this world - comfort food that I have not had before, but definitely want to have again. The creamy lentil soup was exactly what I needed to start off the meal and warm up, a Southerner in frigid Michigan must have hot coffee/tea or soup as much as possible to stay warm. The pepper in the soup added a little a bit of punch to it which was nice. Service was very slow. It looks like more people opt for take-out rather than eating in. I will definitely come back to Zamaan the next time I am in Ann Arbor.

Food is delicious! One of my favs is the Chicken Shawarma. Only down, is togo's take awhile. They say 15 minutes but really mean 25 minutes.

Got a chicken schwarma, it could not be smaller. Might be one of the smallest I've had in AA. Taste really is not special. The service is bad. The front desk lady needs to learn better customer service skills or learn to smile a little. Would not return.

Amazing food. Shish Tawook entree I had was delicious. The chicken was tender and tasty. The hummus was also great. You can ask for more bread. The waiter was very nice and friendly.

This is a little known hidden gem near Plymouth Road and US-23. I was apprehensive about it since the restaurant was completely empty but we were in the mood for lebanese food and didn't feel like driving far from the house or waiting so we ended up at Zamaan. Boy was I surprised! We ordered a platter which had meat kabobs, falafel and some really delicious grilled dolmades (never had these before but they were soo good). It also came with a bowl of the most delicious hummus and pita I have ever had. I like it so much I come here and order it for parties.

I don't know why but this location is hugely lacking compared to their other location. I went to the other location last year and the food was amazing. I came back and stopped here hoping for a repeat performance and was sorely disappointed. Our waitress was new which is fine and all but she didn't know anything. She could make no suggestions from the menu and had to ask her colleague many questions which she yelled across the room rather than walking over and asking. It was crude. She also forgot half of our meal somehow. Ill get into that more later though. Their meat is well cooked and tasty but the rest of the food leaves a lot to be desired. Their pita comes in suspicious plastic baggies but the hummus is good. Overall the food is decent but we had an incident with half out meal not making it to the table. We had to ask for it to be brought out and when it did finally come out, it was obvious they nuked it in the microwave. Grape leaves and falafel are two of my favorite thing but the grape leaves were steaming hot and overdone and the falafel was dried out and rubbery. I expect this kind of thing from Olive Garden or a cheap chain but not a place that prides themselves on serving authentic Lebanese/Mediterranean food. Needless to say, we won't be back. Even after we complained to the manager on duty, he basically called us liars and said there was no way the grape leaves and falafel weren't fresh. Well, considering we had to ask for them half way through our meal as they were forgotten, I don't think it's a stretch to assume they were reheated rather than new ones prepared. Overall, I was very disappointed with the service at this place.

  • Adam W.

The location is a strip mall. I ate outside, but did go in and the decor is ok. They have very large front windows which i liked. Our server seemed uninterested and even approached once with headphones on and had to take them off to talk to us. Dont worry though, the phone she was listening to was safely tucked between her you know whats in her shirt. We ordered the BBB which is eggplant broiled served with various vegetables and rice. It came without the eggplant, which was more or less the whole point of the dish!!! We also ordered the Shish combo. All the meats were nicely seasoned and cooked. The yogurt sauce (which they call garlic sauce i think) was tasty. Rice was bland. The lentil soup was spicy but somehow bland, the fatoosh salad was boring, the baklava was lacking something....overall I was very underwhelmed for a $33+tip meal and will not be going back.

  • Alex P.

Quite Tasty, Fresh, speedy, and certainly friendly enough. The vegetable soup was thick and satisfying with tomato, chickpeas, and green pepper. The madamus plate was beautiful and more than i could eat.

  • Scott J.

Outstanding! Just the way I like restaurants, cheap, fast, and great food. I ate here three times in 4 days on a business trip and was happy every time. The Batinjan Bi Banadura is out of this world, and I don't usually like eggplant that much. The pita wraps were great lunches, just the right amount of food and so yummy. Not sure why people are giving this place 1 and 2 stars, it's 5 stars in my book. Definitely better than the Korean place next door which is ho-hum at best. If anyone has the recipe for the egg plant dish, I want it!

  • Allen L.

Would be 5-star if they were making their own bread. That said, everything I've had seems to have a deft touch, putting it at the head of the pack for Lebanese food in the Detroit area. Yup - head of the pack. If you try only one dish, make it Karnabeet. Crisped cauliflower (blanched in the fryer perhaps?????) makes the basis for one of the best middle eastern dishes I've ever had in my mouth. I don't even like cauliflower and I've had karnabeet twice. The lentil soup is nicely done, just the right amount of toothiness. The garlic spread is super fluffly. Can't recall the name, but the kafta with tomatoe sauce is supberb. Crisp grilled on the outside, juicy on the inside. The kebabs were all very nicely done - moist, wonderful. *Many* hummus dishes - we tried 3 - all were excellent. Desert choices were lacking. The rice pudding was weak - mostly tasting of the honey. Cashew fingers were rich but not sweet - in a good way.

  • Laura S.

The food is yummy! The only thing that needs help is their carry-out. I called and I only heard "Hello?" They didn't say anything about the restaurant, so I thought I had gotten the wrong number for a second! Also, if you get the garlic dip, make sure you ask for extra bread. They give you a large container with only one piece. Otherwise, the food is REALLY good!

  • Karl H.

Food is good, but it seems like the staff doesn't like customers. Waitress was completely unattentive (i.e. we had to wave them down multiple times), brought the wrong things and then didn't apologize. Then when we got the bill, the waitress and owner didn't even check to see what was charged. I had to point out that they overcharged us. Still no apology. Maybe they are going under and are trying to rip off their customers. Restaurants like these go under for a reason....

I have already reviewed Café Zamaan once, however since becoming a regular I feel the need to review it again. This place is the real deal if you are looking for great middle eastern food with prompt, friendly service at an unbeatable price. That's right, I just used the term "real deal". I can't vouch for the whole menu as I am a creature of habit. I have tried an enjoyed the following: fattoush, chicken shawarma (with and without feta), tabouleh, falafel deluxe (hummus and tabouleh), and beef shawarma. After a meal I have not once been the slightest bit disappointed or for that matter hungry. I even have my whole lab ordering most Fridays. Once again, try and you will not be disappointed.

After seeing the reviews of Zamaan online (and realizing my only restaurant options were contained within the strip mall next to Holiday Inn), I decided to try it out. I had an eggplant dish, which came with naan that was suspiciously wrapped up in a plastic baggie. The naan was really dry and underwhelming. I wouldn't be surprised if they purchased it off-the-shelf from a local supermarket. The eggplant dish lacked flavor. The portions were big, and I was unable to finish my plate. After having tried out Zamman and Be Won, I would say that Be Won gives you more for your money and is a bit tastier.

I like this place! Not a fancy place at all, but the food is good, and the service is fine (though minimal). I always have the vegetarian platter, which has everything I like about Mediterranean food: grape leaves, falafel, and tabouli. I also tried the chick pea soup one day, and it was pretty good too. My husband likes all of the meat as well: the chicken, shush kabab, etc. When I took my mom and my mother-in-law, they both enjoyed it as well, though they're not familiar with Mediterranean cousins at all. My mother-in-law enjoyed the rice especially. The baklava is a sweet way to end the meal; each of them is small enough, so you don't feel as guilty, and if you want more, you can just get more, and don't feel as bad eating multiples. I usually have 2 or 3, and my favourite is the walnut and pistachio. I always have good experience there, and leave happy, and I'd go back there anytime.

I recently moved to Ann Arbor from metro Detroit, and have been reluctant to taste the Mediterranean foods here, simply because there were so many excellent places to go to back home. Today I had a persistant craving though, and because of the many good reviews here on Yelp I tried Zamaan. I was not at all disappointed. The chicken shwarma was primo, packed full of goodness, and the garlic sauce was perfect. The pita was toasted just right and the grape leaves were exactly as I had been craving them to be. The only only things I didn't love: the location (in a weird strip mall) and that they put thin pickle slices in instead of the chunky pieces. I like the pieces, not the slices. But the service was pleasant and fast and I'm glad to have found a great new spot... I will certainly be back to try other dishes.

JUST finished my meal from Zamaan Cafe, and I'm pretty darn satisfied. Twas my first time this afternoon, and after a recommendation from a friend, decided to get their Chicken Fattoush. I got it take out, so I can't really speak to the service, other than it was straight forward and fast, especially considering how busy it was during lunch hour. The salad was a decent portion, with loads of chicken and a nice dressing that didn't dominate or make everything soggy. What I really respected was the amount of fried pita mixed in. I know some places give you the option of baked or fried pita, but Zamaan Cafe knows what's up...it's not even a question...they know you want that fried crispy goodness. To be fair, I only got this salad and got it to go, and so I can't really gauge the quality of their other main dishes, specialties, or their dining service.

  • Kate B.

Great food and great service at Zamaan Cafe. My favorites: Tabouli is great - NO stems, not mushed into paste by lazy cooks cranking the parsley through an industrial food-processor. Fresh, lemony, a bit of tomato...just like Great Aunty used to make! Any of the sandwiches are awesome...I especially love their Chicken Shwarma with the addition of Tabouli. The garlic paste is very fresh, the pickles are crisp, the meat high-quality. Wonderful silky Hummus, decent Baba, and the Karnabeet appetizer (spiced and fried cauliflower) is excellent. The only item I did not care for is any of the grape-leaves...they have a good flavor, but they are very tough. I guess I am spoiled as I have a grape-vine growing in my yard, and I freeze enough leaves in the spring for the entire year - the can/jarred variety just don't measure up.

Zamaan used to be one of our go-to spots for a tasty and affordable middle eastern meal. However things are changing. We ordered from Zamaan this past weekend and we ended up with a 35 minute wait for pick up when they had quoted us 15-20 minutes. Several other customers in the store were awaiting pick up orders as well (not a single person dining in) and yet there was still a delay. Perhaps the cook was new. When my food was brought out to me an apology was not offered. Another customer was got so annoyed with the wait that he stood at the cash register until his food was brought out. I dont blame him. Unfortunately I will also say that the food quality has gone down. Portions are smaller and did not come with as many side items as before. We will be giving this place one final try in the near future and if its no different, we will not be returning. If it is improved or still worsened I will update/change my review accordingly. Edit: recently visited again; better experience this time; bumped up to 3*

The food is mediocre. The woman who works most days provides the worst service- she appears miserable and as if she is doing a huge favor when you ask for something. She doesn't smile and doesn't understand the first thing about customer service. She also made a rude comment about my perfume being too strong for her even though I was barely wearing any and my friend commented she must be smelling something else. I will not go back here.
